PCU Float

Overview

• Travel/contract RN position in Overland Park, Kansas
• Night shift: 3x12 hours, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• 36 hours per week
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• First-time travelers accepted

Clinical setting

• Float pool role with regular floating between Med/Surg Intermediate, PCU, and related units
• Patient population includes cardiac, stroke, respiratory, infectious disease, seizure, and withdrawal cases
• Typical ratio: 1:6

Required qualifications

• Valid RN license in Kansas
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Telemetry experience
• Government-issued ID
• Education verification related to nursing
• NURSYS verification
• Unit-specific competency exam
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam
• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam
• Color blind testing
• Employment application
• Skills checklist within 1 year of start
• Two professional references

Schedule and assignment expectations

• 8 weekend shifts in each 6-week schedule period
• Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
• No on-call
• No block scheduling
• No local candidates; home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility
• No pending license accepted
• No more than 7 days of requested time off

Skills and experience focus

• Telemetry and cardiac monitoring
• Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Rapid response support
• Post-MI and pre/post cardiac cath care
• IV insulin protocols
• Feeding tube care
• Hemodialysis-related care
• Central line, PICC, port, and peripheral IV management
• Heparin protocols and cardiac drips
• Respiratory support including CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, oxygen therapy, and tracheostomy management
• Isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac
