PCU Registered Nurse

Job Overview

• Travel/contract role in New Haven, Connecticut
• Day shift, 3x12 hours
• 36 hours per week
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• First-time travelers accepted
• Guaranteed hours
• Floating may be required within scope
• Every other weekend required
• On-call not required
• Block scheduling not accommodated
• RTO over 7 days requires approval

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Connecticut
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
• Pulmonary Step Down Unit experience
• ICU - Intensive Care Unit experience
• Telemetry experience
• Mechanical ventilation/vent experience
• Tracheostomy experience
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIHSS

Unit / Patient Population

• Progressive care unit with patients on mechanical ventilation
• Average nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3

Compliance / Pre-Start Requirements

• Pending license accepted if active before start
• Photo ID matching legal name required on first day
• 7-year criminal background check required
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
• Education verification required
• Physical exam required within 12 months of start
• Fit test required within 12 months of start and annually
• TB questionnaire required annually
• Negative TB documentation required
• 10-panel drug screen required within 12 months of start
• References required within 3 years of start
• 7-year work history required with no gaps greater than 90 days
• Skills checklist required within 12 months of start
• Color blindness testing required
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam required within 12 months of start
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required
• Language services training required
• CAUTI education training required
• Suicide risk and environmental assessment training required
• Stroke education module required
• CLABSI prevention training required
• Preventing pressure injury training required
• Patient transportation with oxygen education required
• Pyxis ES MedStation modules required
• Baxter pump interoperability training required
• Patient bedside rounding module required
• Ventricular assist device awareness module required
