MedSurg - 13 RN (Registered Nurse)
Location
- Oakland, Maryland
Assignment Details
- 13-week contract
- 12-hour night shifts
- 36 hours per week
- Unit: Med/Surg
- 32 beds, currently 20 due to staffing
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: no more than 5
- Floating is required; the unit frequently floats to assist other units as a tasker or extra set of hands
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday coverage rotates with regular staff
Required Qualifications
- RN license
- BLS
- NIHSS required for all RNs and LPNs
- Unexpired driver’s license copy must be included with all submittals
- Epic experience
- Strong MedSurg background due to the variety of patients
Preferred Qualifications
- ACLS
- PALS
Unit Clinical Scope
- Common patient types include CP, CHF, pneumonia, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, ortho, detox, any surgery post-op, and pediatric patients
- The unit can take anything except laboring moms and titrating cardiac drips or insulin drips
- RNs are not required to titrate drips
- Tele/monitoring: ICU monitors are used and read by ICU; results are faxed to Med/Surg for nurse documentation
- Respiratory support on the unit includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow
- House supervisor makes assignments for nurses and aides
- There are 3 nurse aides per shift
Schedule / Operations
- Extra shifts may be available
- Manager makes the schedule
- Block scheduling may be considered if the traveler has preferences
- Call or standby is not required
- Scrubs may be any color except camo or orange
- Unit orientation includes 3–5 days of training on the unit
