PCU / Stepdown Registered Nurse

Overview

  • Travel/Contract role in Randallstown, Maryland
  • Night shift: 3x12 hours, 19:00–7:30
  • 36 hours per week
  • 14-week contract
  • 40-bed PCU/Stepdown unit
  • Adult and geriatric patients
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4; may be 1:5 based on acuity and downgrades
  • If floated to a non-tele Med-Surg unit, ratio is 1:6
  • Floating is required based on hospital needs
  • First-timers are accepted
  • Local candidates are accepted
  • Block scheduling is not accommodated

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Maryland
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit (2 years of experience)
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • NIHSS
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Strong EKG experience
  • Experience managing non-titratable cardiac drips
  • CVA (cerebrovascular accident) experience
  • Chest tube management with Emerson/Pleur-Evac
  • Med Surg experience
  • Telemetry experience

  • None stated

Unit Details

  • Stroke Certified unit
  • Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, MI, sepsis, pneumonia, GI bleed, ETOH withdrawal, renal failure, stroke, and altered mental status
  • Receives patients from the Emergency Department, ICU/CU step-downs, non-telemetry units, and direct admissions
  • Telemetry RNs are responsible for interpreting and documenting rhythms

Additional Clinical Skills / Procedures

  • Peritoneal dialysis
  • Telemetry interpretation and rhythm documentation
  • Non-titratable drips including Amiodarone, Diltiazem/Cardizem, and Lasix
  • Heparin drip nursing protocol
  • Code Team response as recorder and timekeeper

Charting / Equipment

  • Cerner iVIEW
  • Amia PD System
  • Portable telemetry monitoring

Other Notes

  • Navy blue scrubs are provided

Pros

Marigold is polite and professional. She goes above and beyond to ensure the contractor is well informed and has everything needed to be successful. She helped me with onboarding and getting used to the timesheet app and she answers my texts promptly, even after hours. She is a great recruiter liason. Gladys was a super helpful with onboarding and Denise will hook you up with benefits with no trouble at all. Great team to work with.

Cons

Onboarding is somewhat tedious, but they do dot every "i" and cross every T.
