Medical Surgical Oncology

Role Overview

• Travel/Contract RN assignment in Columbus, Ohio.
• Night shift: 3x12 hours, 19:00–7:30.
• 36 hours per week.
• Med Surg unit with hematology oncology focus.
• Floating may include other Med/Surg and Oncology units.
• Staffing ratio goal is 1:4, with up to 1:5.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Ohio.
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Med Surg (1 year of experience).
• Med Surg experience within the last year.
• BLS issued by American Heart Association.
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association.
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start and updated annually.
• Unit-specific competency exam.
• 2 professional references.
• Employment application.
• Skills checklist.

Preferred

• Hematology oncology experience.
• Oncology experience.
• ONS certification.

Unit Details

• Patient population includes lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute leukemias, chronic leukemias, sickle cell disease, other non-cancer hematology, and other benign hematology.
• Common procedures and treatments include chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, insulin drips, heparin drips, and care for oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome.
• Strong focus on infection prevention and fall prevention.

• MS/Tele.
• Telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation.
• Telemetry monitoring on the unit.
• Rapid Response Team use.
• Feeding tube care and management.
• IV therapy and phlebotomy.
• Blood product administration.
• Central line blood draws.
• Peripheral line care and management.
• PICC line management.
• Starting IVs.
