Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN)

Overview

  • Temp RN role in Des Moines, Iowa
  • Nights
  • 13-week contract
  • Unit has 25 beds
  • Patient population includes heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and ortho
  • RN ratio: 1:5–6
  • Traveler must float across all campuses
  • No locals accepted; candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility
  • No first-time travelers; must have completed at least one travel assignment in the previous 12 months

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Iowa
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • 2 years of PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment in the previous 12 months
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Driver's License
  • Experience with cardiac drips (Heparin, PCA, 3% Sodium/Na)
  • EKG / Strip reading & measuring / telemetry experience
  • Med Surg experience
  • Neurosurgery experience
  • Orthopedics experience
  • Experience with Epic

Preferred Qualifications

  • Trauma care experience
  • Trauma Level I experience
  • Specialty equipment experience with telemetry, left equipment, chest tubes, and airvo
  • NIHSS
  • De-escalation certificate; CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA accepted

Scheduling and Holiday Expectations

  • NBO: 16 hours
  • Required to work 1–2 of 3 upcoming winter holidays unless the unit is closed

Pros

Marigold is polite and professional. She goes above and beyond to ensure the contractor is well informed and has everything needed to be successful. She helped me with onboarding and getting used to the timesheet app and she answers my texts promptly, even after hours. She is a great recruiter liason. Gladys was a super helpful with onboarding and Denise will hook you up with benefits with no trouble at all. Great team to work with.

Cons

Onboarding is somewhat tedious, but they do dot every "i" and cross every T.
