ER RN
Overview
- 13-week contract in Weirton, West Virginia.
- Night shift, 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week.
- Busy 16-bed unit with 10 hall beds.
- Level 4 trauma center and STEMI receiving.
- Not a designated stroke center; has a telestroke partnership.
- Paper charting.
Required Qualifications
- RN license.
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
- At least 2 years of ED experience.
- Must be comfortable titrating all critical drips.
Preferred Qualifications
- TNCC.
- NIHSS.
- Prior trauma experience.
Schedule
- Shifts may include 11a-11p, 3p-3a, and 7p-7a.
- Every other weekend.
- May be asked to participate in holiday rotation.
- Modified self-scheduling is used.
Unit Details
- About 41,000 patients annually.
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4; can be 1:5 with hall beds and up to 1:8 on occasion.
- No ancillary help.
- No monitor techs; RNs read their own strips.
- RT is in the building 24/7.
- ED staff does not float to other units.

- Stroke-like symptoms
- Altered mental status
- Back pain
Additional Notes
- 3 ED physicians are staffed around the clock.
- 3 ED techs are staffed around the clock and are paramedics.
- RNs draw all labs except type and cross/screen.
- Navy blue scrubs.
