Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Missouri
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of inpatient Stepdown experience, completed within the last year
• Driver's license
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Experience with tracheostomy care and mechanical ventilation (the unit is very respiratory heavy)

Unit Information

• Unit: 6 East Med Surg Intermediate
• Beds: 22
• Patient Ratios: 1:3 or 1:4
• Equipment: Trach, vent, vapo, BiPAP
• Software: Epic (EMR)
• Patient Types: Respiratory failure, ETOH, overdose, GI bleed, electrolyte imbalance, COPD, cancer
• Float Scope: As needed to a similar or lower acuity unit

Responsibilities

• Performs direct patient care for all age groups, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
• Uses the nursing process to care for patients post-trauma, post-surgical, and with medical comorbidities
• Maintains professional accountability for patient care and evaluates the effectiveness of care provided by other caregivers
• Coordinates patient care with other departments and ancillary staff
• Maintains patient rights and confidentiality
• Practices within the Missouri Nurse Practice Act

Physical Requirements

• Stands and walks most of the time on duty
• Significant bending, stooping, lifting, and turning of patients with assistance
• Pushing, pulling, and gripping up to 50 lbs.; pinching up to 15 lbs.
• Kneeling, crouching, and crawling minimally
• High risk exposure to blood and body fluids
• May be required to work differing schedules, shifts, or days based on patient care needs

Schedule and Auto Offer Guidelines

• Flexible guaranteed hours of 36 or 48, listed on the submission form
• Blocked scheduling (no specific days) may be approved based on facility requirements; must be listed on the submission form
• Requests off (RTO) of 5 days or less must be made up at the back end of the week
• One holiday RTO may be requested per assignment
• Auto offers are contingent on facility approval and may be retracted by the facility within 48 hours
• Night shift orients on day shift; traveler must be available the entire orientation week
• All contingency requests must be on the submission form
