Emergency Room RN (ER)

Employment Type: Travel/Contract Location: Lynchburg, Virginia Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Night, 4x12 hours (18:45 to 07:15). Schedule is 3x12 or 4x12 nights, every other weekend. Hours: 12 hours per day, 48 hours per week Facility Note: Nicotine-free campus

Unit and Staffing

• Ratio: 1:4
• Floating: Staff can float but typically do not.
• Orientation: Biweekly orientation on Mondays.
• Scheduling: Block scheduling and specific days off are not guaranteed unless reviewed and approved by the unit. All scheduling requests must be communicated and addressed before a traveler accepts an assignment. Recruiters should not advise candidates to accept with the expectation that scheduling accommodations can be worked out after arrival.
• Scrubs: Not provided.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Virginia
• Emergency Department (ED) experience: minimum 2 years, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association

Additional Certifications (Applicable by Unit Description)

• NRP (Advanced Provider card required, not Essentials)
• EFM (AWHONN Advanced or Intermediate within 2 years of assignment start, updated every 2 years)
• NIH Stroke Certification (within 1 year of assignment start, updated every 2 years)

Health and Compliance Requirements

• Background check: Completed within 30 days of start. Includes SSN trace, county searches for the last 7 years, nationwide search, sex offender registry, and FACIS Level 3. Updated annually.
• Exclusion checks: EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG, completed before facility start.
• Identification: Unexpired government-issued photo ID.
• Physical exam: Physical statement within 6 months of start. Not required annually.
• TB: PPD, QuantiFERON Gold, or T-SPOT within 1 year of start. A chest X-ray is required within 2 years for a positive PPD. A TB questionnaire is required for a positive result and annually in lieu of annual testing.
• Immunizations or titers: Rubeola (measles), mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella. Options include two vaccines, a positive titer, declination, or a booster, depending on the test. Candidates born before 1957 are exempt from measles, mumps, and rubella.
• Drug screen: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days before start. Instant drug screen is permitted. Marijuana is not tested.
• Flu vaccine: Required during flu season. Medical and religious exemptions are acceptable with approval. Exempt workers must wear a mask on all shifts.
• Competencies: Medication test/pharmacology competency exam, competency exam, color blind testing (Ishihara), and a skills checklist.
• Onboarding: Facility onboarding form, deemed consent for blood draw, and orientation safety manual acknowledgment.
