Job Summary:
The organization is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for a Neuro Medical Surgical Acute unit located in Peoria, Illinois. This role involves providing specialized care for patients with neurological conditions, including stroke, spine surgery, seizures, brain tumors, and head injuries. Candidates must have a valid Illinois license and be prepared to bring it on the first day of assignment. The position requires a minimum of one year of relevant experience, including prior travel experience on a dedicated neuro unit with Level 1 trauma experience.

Job Details:

• Shift: 12-hour nights
• Schedule: One shift, with efforts to meet requested days off and staffing needs, including blocking shifts when possible
• Required Qualifications: Active Illinois license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated; BLS (AHA) certification; NIHSS certification; minimum of 1 year of experience working on a dedicated neuro unit; Level 1 trauma experience; previous travel experience (excluding first-time travelers)
• Certifications: BLS (AHA), NIHSS
• Experience: Must have prior experience working on a dedicated neurology unit, including heparin titration experience for heparin gtt based on PTT
• Additional Information:
  • Staffing includes a charge nurse 24/7, and a house supervisor 24/7
  • Patient care techs are present on the unit; nurse to patient ratios are approximately 1:5-6 during nights and 1:10-12 for patient care techs
  • RNs may be required to troubleshoot high-flow equipment, primarily for stable COVID-19 patients; telemetry monitors are Phillips brand, and nurses are responsible for reading their own strips
  • Float in rotation with staff; floats outside of the general unit will perform only skills they are competent in and be assigned with a trained nurse
  • Orientation consists of 2 days for computer and unit-specific training, plus 1 day caring for patients with a preceptor
