Description

Job Summary:
Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Step Down Unit located in Wheeling, West Virginia. This position involves providing intermediate care to patients with various diagnoses under the supervision of hospitalists, intensivists, and the in-house ICU team. Candidates are required to bring their nursing license on the first day. The assignment is set to start on June 15, 2026, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.

Job Details:

  • Location: Wheeling, West Virginia
  • Schedule: 12-hour day shifts, running from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with self-scheduling allowed as long as the needs of the unit are met. Staff are allowed four requested days off per month.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid RN license, ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support) certifications, NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale), at least 2 years of nursing experience, willing to wait for license submission, with no specific education degree requirements.
  • Preferred Qualifications: None specified.
  • Float: Float rotation may be required into medical-surgical or telemetry units with ratios up to 1:6, possibly 1:7 in medical-surgical settings.
  • Additional Information: The unit is an Intermediate Care Unit with 30 beds, including 14 private and 16 semi-private rooms. Patient management includes chest pain, arrhythmias, post-pacer, pre/post catheterizations, and Tikosyn therapy. The unit features telemetry monitoring, respiratory support managed by RTs, in-house hospitalist and intensivist coverage 24/7, and a dedicated IV team. The first day includes orientation with HR and preceptors, after which nurses work independently. Attendance and punctuality are strictly enforced with no tolerance for call-offs or tardiness.
