Job Summary
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN) position in Madison, Wisconsin. This role involves providing family-centered care for critically ill or injured children in a state-of-the-art 21-bed unit. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day. The position offers an opportunity to work in a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, caring for patients with a wide variety of medical and surgical problems, including neurological, pulmonary, cardiac, transplant, and multisystem organ failure cases.
Job Details
- Location: Madison, Wisconsin
- Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts, 19:00 to 07:30, Monday through Friday with every other weekend and some holidays required.
- Minimum Hours Per Week: 48 hours
- Required Qualifications: Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license or a compact RN license, at least two years of recent acute care experience within the last three years in critical care, strong Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience, at least one year of cardiovascular (CV) experience, EPIC electronic medical record experience, BLS (Basic Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certifications, and passing telemetry testing prior to start.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience in level I trauma units, trauma level II experience, and extensive PICU experience.
- Certifications: BLS, PALS, Wisconsin RN or compact RN license.
- Skills: End-Tidal CO2 monitoring, accessing/managing ports, blood and blood products administration, anti-seizure medications, antiarrhythmics, arterial line management, intubation assistance, BiPAP/CPAP management, ventilator care, central line blood draws, CVP monitoring, management of congenital heart disease or repair, ECMO, external ventricular drain, hemodynamic monitoring, high flow nasal cannula, ICP monitoring, infection control/PPE, insulin administration, ABG interpretation, dysrhythmia interpretation, isolation precautions/PPE, vasopressors, chest tube management, NG tube management, neuromuscular assessment, pediatric CVICU care, pediatric dosage calculations, PEWS/rapid response team, peritoneal dialysis, phlebotomy, PICC line management, post-surgical care, procedural sedation, IV access, suctioning, telemetry monitoring, TPN/lipids, tracheostomy care, urinary catheters, vaccine administration, ventilator management, wound care.
- Additional Information: The unit cares for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents, with a daily census of 18 patients in a 23-room facility with 25 beds. The unit provides specialized care for cardiac, respiratory, neuro/neurosurgical cases, and is a Level 1 trauma center with transplant services. Support services include IV teams, respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, and social services. The facility is Magnet designated and features a dedicated pediatric trauma center and Level IV NICU.
- Testing & Certification Requirements: Strict pas/fail telemetry exam prior to start, with two attempts allowed. A third attempt requires submission of a cardiac interpretation review course certificate.
