Job Summary:
Pediatric Psychology Nurse Practitioner position available in Bangor, Maine. This role involves providing specialized psychiatric and medical care to pediatric and adult patients within a behavioral health facility. The candidate will be required to bring their license on the first day to ensure compliance with state licensing requirements. The position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment with various therapeutic modalities, including group therapy and de-escalation techniques.
Job Details:
- Location: Bangor, Maine
- Schedule: Nights; 12-hour shifts; 48 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Valid Maine State License, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, minimum of 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing experience, de-escalation experience, experience with physical restraints (chemical restraints are NOT used), medication passes, comfortability to run groups, documentation experience, and MOAB certification obtained on site during orientation.
- Preferred Qualifications: Pediatric Behavioral Health experience, experience with pediatric psychology, familiarity with Cerner electronic medical record system.
- Float: Yes, floating between all units including adult and pediatric behavioral health units. If the candidate is not comfortable floating to pediatric units, manager approval is required before offers are made.
- Additional Information: Orientation includes facility and unit-specific training; first-week work on days Monday through Friday, followed by 12-hour night shifts as scheduled. Traveler may have the opportunity to act as Charge Nurse, but this is not required. Support staff includes a Nurse Supervisor available evenings and weekends, a Nurse Manager during the day, and other clinical staff such as psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, occupational therapists, and security personnel.
- Patient Types: Pediatric (ages 5-18) and adult (18+) patients with diagnoses including mood disorders, schizophrenia, anxiety, and others. No forensic patients or inmates. Patients are primarily admitted from emergency departments.
- Travel and Scheduling: Every other weekend rotation, modified self-scheduling for shifts, with manager review to ensure shift coverage. No guarantee for block scheduling.
- Uniform and Safety: Scrub color must be professional and in solid color; no specific color required. Heavy snow expected during winter; safety protocols in place for escalation events with available code leadership.
- Additional Notes: During interviews, candidates should understand that there is a code leader for escalations and potential for them to serve in this role. Scenario-based de-escalation training occurs biweekly. MOAB review is ongoing on-site.
