Job Summary
Sterile Processing Technician (Sterile Processing Tech) Grand Junction, CO. Responsible for assembling, cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and/or storing procedure trays, surgical trays, and equipment. Also assembles, distributes, and/or delivers disposable and durable medical equipment, case carts, and supplies to support Operating Room, nursing units, ancillary departments, and affiliated clinics. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.
Job Details
- Schedule: Rotating evening shift (TuSat 3:00 PM11:30 PM; SunThurs 3:00 PM11:30 PM; MonFri 3:00 PM11:30 PM) with weekends included; monthly on-call as needed (PRN) and assistance with holiday work or call as required; minimum 40 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; 1+ years of experience (minimum listed); ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team; experience and understanding in computer use and ability to learn sterile processing software; ability to function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment; ability to work nights and/or weekends.
- Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in a hospital or clinic operating room.
- Responsibilities: Assemble, clean, disinfect, sterilize, and/or store procedure and surgical trays and equipment; assemble/distribute/deliver medical equipment, case carts, and supplies to appropriate areas; operate and monitor sterilization equipment; disassemble carts and follow universal precautions for decontamination; sterilize and disinfect durable medical equipment and instruments; package clean supplies and instruments; maintain records for instruments and transport sterilized items to the floor; recheck assembled instruments for cleanliness and/or impairment and properly check power equipment; support instrument tracking through labeling processes, use of an engraver, and documentation of missing instruments and implants replaced in trays; communicate equipment and instrument inventory status with central processing staff and surgery charge nurse, including order status and back orders or changes; respond to emergency situations by ensuring emergency, trauma, and add-on cases are properly supplied and delivered to the Operating Room in a timely manner; utilize applications and technology to maintain accurate record keeping in accordance with state and federal regulations; provide on-the-job training (OJT) to newly hired associates; promote the organizations mission, vision, and values and adhere to service behavior standards; perform other duties as assigned.
- Additional Information: Variable shift availability with rotating scheduling; may be required to work overtime based on business need; may be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need; may be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.
