Description

Job Summary:
The Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) Registered Nurse (RN) position is based in Kansas City, Missouri. This role involves providing specialized nursing care for patients undergoing bariatric surgery, urology procedures such as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) or transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) with continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), hepatobiliary surgeries like Whipple or liver resections, colorectal procedures including colon resection and ostomy management, and trauma cases with abdominal injuries. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Night shifts, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid Compact License, current Basic Life Support (BLS) and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications; 2 years of nursing experience; experience with electronic medical records (EMR), specifically Epic; previous travel experience; vaccination with flu vaccine (medical or religious exemptions only).
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with MS/Tele, PCU/Stepdown/Intermediate Care, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, use of Rapid Response and Code teams, management of feeding tubes, surgical drains, epidural analgesia, PCA, chest tubes, and wound vacs.
  • Additional Information: The position involves floating within scope of practice between departments, units, and facilities as needed. The unit has a daily census of approximately 20 patients, with primary care for adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Care responsibilities include managing multiple drains, tubes, wounds, and providing advanced pain management techniques. The candidate should be comfortable with complex surgical cases and comprehensive post-operative care.
