Description

Job Summary:
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) registered nurses are sought in Tacoma, Washington, to join a high-acuity pediatric hospital with a level IV NICU. The position involves caring for premature and high-risk newborns, including those with disorders such as respiratory distress syndrome, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, and neonatal abstinence syndrome. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day of employment. The role requires a minimum of two years of experience in a Level III to IV NICU setting.

Job Details:

  • Location: Tacoma, Washington
  • Shift Times: 07:00 AM - 07:30 PM or 07:00 PM - 07:30 AM
  • Shift Hours: 12 hours per shift
  • Minimum Hours Per Week: 36 hours
  • Required Qualifications: Valid Washington state nursing license, Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), minimum of 2 years of experience caring for neonates in Level III or IV NICU
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with surgical patients and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), experience with respiratory support for ventilators, trachs (highly preferred but not required), G-tubes, NG/OG tubes, NCPAP, UAC/UVC management, PICC lines, medication administration, care planning, and discharge to home
  • Additional Information:
    • Consideration for first-time travel nurses; prior travel experience strongly preferred
    • Patient Types include prematurity down to 22 weeks gestation, respiratory distress syndrome, high-risk deliveries, feeders and growers, and neonatal abstinence syndrome
    • Floating occasionally to the Emergency Room to act as a sitter is possible but rare
    • Every other weekend rotation, with some back-to-back weekends potentially occurring
    • No on-call duties required
    • Block scheduling may be available but is not guaranteed
    • The NICU is part of the pediatric hospital attached to an adult hospital, with private rooms and overflow capacity in the Level II nursery
