Description
Job Summary:
The Step Down Unit registered nurse is based in the Newburgh, Indiana area and is responsible for providing specialized care to patients recovering from cardiac procedures, including pre- and post-cath lab and electrophysiology procedures, as well as cardiac surgery admissions. The role involves managing cardiac patients in a dedicated 31-bed unit, with a focus on assessment, monitoring, and patient education, working primarily during 12-hour night shifts.
Job Details:
- Location: Newburgh, Indiana
- Schedule: 12-hour nights (6:00 PM - 6:30 AM), minimum 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Associate Degree or Certificate; Indiana Single State RN License, American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS); NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS); 2 years of experience in step down nursing; charting experience in EPIC (CUPID experience highly preferred); proficiency in start IVs, arterial line management, cardiac drips titration, and Tele/12-lead EKG interpretation.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with pre/post heart catheterization procedures, PACU recovery, cardiac surgery admissions, and TAVR/LAAO recoveries.
- Float: Float to other cardiac, step-down, or telemetry units; nights, at least once a week.
- On Call/Call Back: Not applicable
- Weekends/Holidays: Every other weekend and holiday rotation
- Shift Details: 12-hour night shifts (6:00 PM 6:30 AM)
- Experience Requirement: Minimum 2 years in specialty nursing, with flexibility based on candidate experience.
- Charting System: EPIC (CUPID preferred)
- Additional Responsibilities: Manage and interpret telemetry and 12-lead EKGs, manage cardiac devices, and monitor trending troponins.
- Patient Population: Cardiac procedure recovery, observation, and admissions, including post-PCI, PACU, post-surgical, TAVR, and LAAO patients.
- Shift Notes: Precepting of students and new-hires may be required; Covid-19 vaccine not required.
