Description

Job Summary:
The Labor and Delivery (L&D) Nursing position is located in Milwaukee, WI, within a Level IV Trauma Center, Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and Level III Perinatal Center. This role involves providing comprehensive obstetric and neonatal care in a teaching hospital setting, supporting high-risk mothers and newborns. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day of assignment.

Job Details:

  • Shift Hours: 12-hour night shifts
  • Minimum Hours Per Week: 36 hours
  • Required Qualifications: Valid license as a Registered Nurse (RN), with at least 2 years of experience in a Level III Perinatal Care setting. Certifications include BLS, NRP, Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM), and OB-specific certifications such as CST. Experience with fetal monitoring, maternal assessments and interventions, high-risk newborn and maternal care, cervical exams, OB triage, assisting with circulating cesarean sections, and postpartum recovery required.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in a high-acuity obstetric environment, familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EPIC), and handling OB-related procedures.
  • Float: Travelers will float first to the Postpartum Women's Care Center, which is another inpatient unit.
  • Additional Information: This is a first-time traveler assignment is not applicable; the candidate must have at least 2 years of relevant experience. The facility will provide orientations including onboarding and training with preceptors. The schedule is flexible with no set shifts; availability to work 7 days a week and every other weekend is required. RTO requests should be emailed to the nurse manager. There are no on-call requirements; on-call is only for low census situations. Scrub color is provided, and parking is free in designated areas.
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1-2 during active labor, 1:3 in antepartum.
  • Support on the Unit: Includes charge nurses, clinical resource nurses, lab personnel, providers, and 24/7 OB anesthesia. The facility is a teaching hospital with OB surgical and clinical support staff available at all times.
  • Charting System/Equipment: EPIC, Alaris, Pyxis, Fetal Monitoring, Epidural Pumps.
