Operating Room Technician (Surgical Technician/Operating Room Tech) ORT (San Diego, CA)
The Operating Room Technician provides specific patient care duties and performs unit support activities within the operating room suite. Responsibilities include ensuring consistent compliance with facility policies and procedures, supporting surgical case needs before and during procedures, and completing required documentation and communication for safe perioperative care. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details

• Schedule: Evenings; 12-hour shifts; minimum 36.0 hours per week. On-call coverage includes 12-hour weekend on-call and 20-hour weekday on-call within a 4-week period, with a 30-minute response time. Weekend call may be in addition to regularly scheduled weekend shifts, with two shifts scheduled every other weekend.
• Required Qualifications: Minimum high school education (preferred); approved program for Operating Room Technicians or demonstrated technical skills through on-the-job training; Basic Life Support (BLS) for HealthCare providers; minimum of three years as a scrub person in a hospital setting; required skills include robotics procedures, technical skills through on-the-job training, scrubbing in operating room procedures, ortho procedures, and neuro procedures.
• Preferred Qualifications: Scrub Tech Certification; teaching experience.
• Additional Information: Prioritizes quality care to operating room patients by anticipating case needs, selecting cases following physician preference card, fulfilling additional responsibilities without prompting, performing and verifying surgical counts (including count procedures and instrumental tray accountability), reporting exceptions, updating surgeon preference card per process requirements, and identifying problems and taking appropriate action to support department objectives and improve quality of care. Participates in teaching and may work additional or different shifts as requested; responsible for one department task beyond routine responsibilities. Submits written recommendations to change processes or provide suggestions for cost containment.
