Description

Job Summary: Intensive Care Unit Cardiovascular Registered Nurse (RN) Johnson City, NY. The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities by preventing illness and injury and alleviating suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, as well as advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible and accountable for compliance with nursing practice standards and professional development under the New York State Nurse Practice Act, organizational policies, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Practice, and the Code of Ethics for Nurses, and is expected to bring a current license on the first day.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour nights, 36 hours per week, every 3rd weekend.
  • Required Qualifications: Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license; graduate of an accredited school of Nursing; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association (AHA), High Speed, or American Red Cross); and experience working with intensive cardiac patients, including (as listed) congestive heart failure (CHF), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), end stage heart failure, cardiogenic shock, septic shock, gastrointestinal (GI) bleeds, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), Impella, normothermia, and stroke patients requiring thrombectomy/tenecteplase (TNK), as well as intensive care unit (ICU) overflow; and at least six (6) months to three (3) years of Nursing (RN) experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN); previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting; and relevant skills certification (e.g., Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)) as required by the home unit assigned.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care for a group of patients, serving as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse when designated by unit assignment.
    • Educates patients and families in health promotion and disease management using available resources.
    • Utilizes pharmacology knowledge to safely administer medications according to organizational policy.
    • Supports productivity and effective resource utilization, including staffing, time management, supplies, and services.
    • Complies with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
    • Participates in nursing shared governance by supporting the unit council, contributing to improvement initiatives, and engaging in peer review practices.
    • Engages in professional development, continuing nursing education, and completes all mandatory education requirements.
    • Integrates nursing research and current evidence into practice.
    • Provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
    • Performs Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator duties when assigned.
    • Participates in a clinical ladder program as knowledge and expertise develop.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
