Description
Job Summary:
The Labor and Delivery (L&D) Specialty is seeking a highly qualified travel nurse for an assignment at a Level III nursery unit located in Ellsworth, Maine. The position involves comprehensive labor and postpartum care, including neonatal care and management of high-risk obstetric conditions. Candidates are required to bring their licenses on the first day of the assignment. This role requires proficiency in all phases of labor and postpartum care, as well as experience caring for well babies.
Job Details:
- Location: Ellsworth, Maine
- Schedule: Nights, with weekend rotation every other week, minimum of 36 hours per week, starting 07/13/2026
- Required Qualifications: Certifications include Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification. Candidates must have at least 2 years of labor and delivery experience, with a valid license.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with shoulder dystocia, epidural management, intrathecal spinal analgesia, nitrous oxide, and neonatal care including VS, thermoregulation, hypoglycemia, bilirubin management, and neonate NAS care.
- Responsibilities: Managing all phases of labor and postpartum care; Neonatal care including VS, thermoregulation, hypoglycemia, bilirubin, NAS; assisting with cesarean sections (primarily neonatal catch); monitoring for postpartum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, HELLP syndrome; supporting low to moderate acuity patients, including those with IV antibiotics, swing bed, or rehab needs.
- Patient Ratios: Based on AWHONN guidelines1:2 for laboring, 1:1 for active labor, 1:3-4 for couplets, and 1:2-3 for med/surg patients.
- Additional Information: The unit operates without a dedicated nursery RN; the RN will also care for babies. The facility employs a rooming-in model. Orientation includes general hospital and unit-specific training. EMR system used is Cerner. Float to Med/Surg or Emergency Department may be required for task assistance only, with no patient assignment.
