Description

Job Summary:
The neurological Intensive Care Unit registered nurse (ICU RN) position is located in Wausau, Wisconsin. This role involves providing specialized neurocritical care to patients with neurological conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, head injury, and neurosurgical cases. Candidates are required to bring their Wisconsin registered nursing license on the first day of the assignment. This is an 11-week contract with guaranteed hours, requiring attendance for 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM.

Job Details:

  • Required Qualifications: Valid Wisconsin RN license; Associate Degree or Certificate; BLS and ACLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross); NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification; minimum of 2 years clinical experience with previous travel experience preferred; background in Medical/Surgical ICU and/or Neuro ICU with strong assessment skills in neurology; familiarity with external ventricular drains (EVDs) and intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring; experience in neuro assessments and bedside procedures such as line placement and intubation.
  • Experience: 0 years minimum, with 2 years preferred.
  • Float Requirements: Must float between Neuro Critical Care ICU and Medical/Surgical ICU units as needed, possibly to other critical care and inpatient units.
  • Additional Information:
    • Contract length is 11 weeks.
    • Guaranteed hours per week are 48, with OT available after 48 hours worked.
    • No on-call or callback required.
    • Unit will typically experience low census in 4-hour increments; may request working only 4 or 8 hours of a shift.
    • The unit operates on every other weekend and holiday rotation.
    • Vaccinations required during flu season include flu and COVID-19 vaccines; masking is mandatory for those declining vaccinations.
    • Scrub colors can be any color.
    • During holidays, the unit may be closed, but traveler is guaranteed set hours per week outside of holiday closures.
    • The traveler is expected to manage independently, be resilient, and adapt well to change.
