Job Summary
Step Down Registered Nurse (RN) Parkersburg, West Virginia
The organization is seeking a Registered Nurse to support the Advanced Care Unit (Stepdown). This role focuses on caring for patients requiring stepdown acuity, including the facilitys designated Stroke, Trauma, and Vascular population. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details

  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts (days: 0700-1930; nights: 1900-0730) with a minimum of 36 hours per week. Weekend and holiday requirements are scheduled based on unit needs.
  • Required Qualifications:
    • Registered Nurse license (license required to be submitted; willing to wait)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association (AHA)
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association (AHA)
    • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
    • Stepdown/Advanced Care Unit (ACU) acuity experience, including ability to read strips
    • Experience requirement: 2 years
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • No preferred qualifications listed
  • Additional Information:
    • Very rare call or standby requirements
    • Travelers are first to float as needed to other appropriate levels within the Advanced Care Unit (ACU) patient population (e.g., down to MedSurg/Tele or up to ICU for ACU status patients); not expected to float to CVICU
    • Charge nurse coverage is 24/7; assignments may be taken based on unit needs (night charge nurse always takes a patient assignment)
    • Cardizem titrated per provider orders; Insulin and Heparin may be titrated or set per orders
    • Respiratory equipment may include CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow therapies
    • The unit has monitor tech support; Registered Nurses are responsible for reading, verifying, and signing off on strips
    • Unit orientation includes day one onboarding, clinical education, and shadowing for the remainder of the day; additional shadowing occurs on day two and day three, followed by independent practice
    • A copy of an unexpired drivers license must be included with all submissions
