Job Summary: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse Newport News, Virginia
A Registered Nurse (RN) in the Intensive Care Unit supports the delivery of quality care by ensuring adherence to the nursing care plan. The role supervises Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, and orientees, while completing nursing assessments, documenting care, and coordinating patient information for team conferences. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Days shift, 12 hours per shift, minimum 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required prior to the first shift; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required prior to the first shift (CIRH only); minimum two (2) years of bedside clinical experience; PCU/Critical Care or step-down experience.
  • Additional Information: Performs nursing assessments within 8 hours of admission and uses collected data to support an individualized plan of care. Initiates discharge planning from the day of admission and provides patient teaching in anticipation of discharge. Communicates changes in patient status to support continuity of care and patient safety, including attending physician and charge nurse. Provides direction, training, and supervision of ancillary nursing personnel, and assumes charge responsibility following the orientation period as requested. Participates in the patient rehabilitation program on an assigned unit and supports ongoing professional development through continuing education and self-study.
