Job Summary:
The organization is seeking a Medical Surgical (MS) Registered Nurse for a trauma care center in Evansville, Indiana. This position involves providing specialized care on a day shift in a 44-bed facility, with a focus on trauma, orthopedic, and neurological patients. The role offers a contract length of 13 weeks, starting on August 24, 2026, with guaranteed hours of at least 36 per week.
Job Details:
- Position: Ortho Neuro Trauma Care Center MS RN - Days - Deaconess Midtown
- Location: Evansville, Indiana
- Schedule: 12-hour days, from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week
- Start Date: 08/24/2026
- Contract Length: 13 weeks, with weekly orientation through July
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 (may accept up to 48 upon request)
- Shift Requirement: 12-hour days, 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM
- Float Requirements: First to float within skill set to nearby campuses, with 2 hours' notice for cross-campus float within the same city
- Weekend/Holiday Schedule: Three weekends out of every six-week schedule; every other holiday
- Certifications: Must possess current active compact license, AHA BLS, and NIHSS
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years as an RN, including one full year in orthopedic, neuro, or trauma care; at least one travel assignment; trauma level II experience
- Charting Experience: Recent EPIC experience required, including an upcoming checkoff class
- Patient Population: Trauma, orthopedic (e.g., broken hip/femur), neurological (scheduled neck/back, spine, rib fractures)
- Skillset:
- Required: Strong neuro assessment, log rolling patients, using assistive devices (back brace, immobilizer), Tele/12-lead EKG interpretation (pass tele test required, STEPDOWN experience only), PIV insertion
- Preferred: Chest tube/indwelling drain management, medication drips (heparin, lasix, protonix), epidural management, PEGs/NGs, Buck's traction, pin site care, On-Q management, CIWA/BH assessments, wound care (packing, wound vacs)
- Additional Information:
- Unit has 44 beds, with a nurse-to-patient ratio on days of 1:3-5
- Travel nurses are treated as part of the team, with management since 2017
- Navy blue scrubs required, no competing logos
- May involve precepting students and new hires
- COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
- GSA hours are not guaranteed during orientation; set hours guaranteed per week, excluding holidays when the unit is closed
- Qualifications: Associate Degree or Certificate
