Job Summary
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Clinical Nurse (CN) Pleasanton, California. The Clinical Nurse provides hands-on patient care using an evidence-based approach, following the scope of practice under the California Nursing Practice Act, applicable regulatory requirements, standards of care, and facility policies. Responsibilities include performing the nursing process (assessment, interpretation of data, planning, implementation, and evaluation), coordinating care with the healthcare team, and supporting patients and families through illness, recovery, and end-of-life as aligned with patient goals and culture. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.
Job Details
- Schedule: Days (12 hours), minimum 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications:
- California Registered Nurse (CA-RN) license
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university (preferred)
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- License and certifications must be current for employment
- Additional Information:
- Creates a healing environment for patients and families by identifying and managing discomfort, providing emotional support and information, and guiding patients and families through phases of illness and recovery/passage to death in accordance with patient goals and culture
- Obtains and interprets accurate assessment data, distinguishes normal versus abnormal findings, identifies nursing diagnoses, and monitors/evaluates data based on patient stability
- Develops and implements individualized plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and the healthcare team; safely implements nursing and medical interventions and monitors for adverse responses and side effects
- Assesses learning needs and readiness to learn, provides patient and family education for self-care and illness prevention, and adjusts teaching based on response, developmental level, physiological and psychological condition, and cultural variations
- Assists with teaching other staff members in unit/hospital roles such as preceptor or shared learning
- Identifies problem situations requiring urgent response, activates emergency protocols as needed, and monitors for adherence to patient and employee safety standards and policies
- Prioritizes responsibilities, delegates appropriately, and seeks assistance when required to manage multiple requests and work expectations
- Communicates effectively in multiple formats for documentation and clinical information sharing
- Participates in team building through unit programs and meetings and supports positive morale using constructive conflict resolution
- Demonstrates commitment to lifelong learning and evaluates nursing practice against professional standards, guidelines, and applicable statutes and regulations
