Registered Nurse (RN) Correctional / Prison Facility (Bakersfield, CA)
The organization is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide independent nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe, therapeutic care for acutely ill patients on a night shift. The role involves collecting and documenting patient data, interpreting assessment findings to identify risks, collaborating with the care team to develop individualized plans of care, and responding promptly when patient conditions change. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.
Job Details
- Schedule: Nights, 12-hour shifts, minimum 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Valid and unrestricted State of California Registered Nurse License (RN License); current Basic Life Support (BLS) card; graduation from an accredited registered nursing program (bachelors or associate degree preferred); 3 years of experience; knowledge of advanced nursing theory and practices, medical terminology, instruments and equipment, and the uses and effects of medicines and narcotics.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Med Surg (Medical-Surgical) or Emergency Room (ER).
- Responsibilities:
- Prescribe, delegate, and coordinate nursing care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Collect and document data for assigned patients using prescribed methods, and interpret assessment data to identify physiological and/or psychosocial risk factors.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team to develop individualized plans of care based on existing and potential patient problems and observable responses.
- Implement nursing and physician orders safely; prioritize nursing actions using assessment interpretation and clinical experience.
- Establish nursing diagnoses, formulate written care plans, evaluate effectiveness of nursing interventions, and revise care plans as needed.
- Anticipate and manage rapidly changing situations, including identifying the need for and activation of emergency protocols and assistance.
- Coordinate patient care activities with nurses, physicians, and Advanced Practice Providers, ensuring understanding of team dynamics and effective collaboration.
- Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and evidence-based practices, measuring outcomes against patient care goals and hospital or regulatory standards.
- Provide safe care while protecting employees by following approved infection control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional governance activities related to nursing practice, nursing recognition, and well-being initiatives.
- Complete required competencies, mandatory classes, and educational coursework; maintain knowledge and competence reflecting current nursing practice.
- Adhere to applicable policies and procedures and comply with the ANA Code of Ethics and ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, consistent with Registered Nurse scope of practice.
