Description

Job Summary: RN (Registered Nurse) Step Down Unit Omaha, Nebraska
The RN - CVU position provides intermediate care for patients who require step-down services and downgraded CVICU patients, with a unit focus that heavily supports the thoracic program, EP (Electrophysiology), cath lab, and structural heart. The role requires clinical readiness to manage common cardiac and vascular diagnoses, including CVAs, CHF, and A fib RVR, while supporting prescribed monitoring and treatment practices. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details:

  • Shift: 12-hour nights (06301900; 18300700)
  • Schedule: Nights shifts with a minimum of 48 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications:
    • Current RN licensure (license required at submission)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
    • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
    • Drivers license required at submittal and will be used to determine if candidate is outside 50 miles
  • Preferred Qualifications: None provided
  • Float: Float to all same level and lower levels of acuity may be required.
  • Additional Information:
    • Unit care includes 1:4 and 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratios for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours, with additional staffing needs described as 1:18 for duties.
    • Nursing responsibilities may include reading and interpreting tele/monitor strips; remote tele technology and tele hardwired/tele box capabilities are used.
    • Respiratory support may include BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula.
    • Common titratable medications include amiodarone (Amio), nitroglycerin (nitro), nicardipine (nicardipine), epinephrine (epi), and diltiazem (cardizem) along with other blood pressure management medications.
    • Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
    • Unit orientation: tailored to needs and experience, including 12 shifts on the unit.
    • RTO requirements: RTO needed upfront (7 or less days per 13-week contract); additional RTO will not be approved, including after submissions.
