Job Summary
Operating Room (First Assistant) Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) Lodi, California. The healthcare provider will organize and facilitate patient care in the Operating Room (OR), coordinating overall care between the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and room staff throughout the perioperative period. The role also includes acting as a first assistant during surgical incision, excision, and repair, participating in preoperative assessment and planning for selected surgical patients, and maintaining subject matter expertise regarding medication, treatment, and patient care standards. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.
Job Details
- Schedule: Rotating shifts; minimum 8 hours per shift, 40 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Completion of an RNFA program that meets Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) standards; Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice; Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) certification in the state of practice; Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per organizational policy; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from an approved vendor per organizational policy; Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Status (PEARS)/Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from an approved vendor per organizational policy.
- Preferred Qualifications: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per organizational policy; Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) membership; Two years of perioperative nursing experience; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per organizational policy.
- Additional Information: Performs circulating and scrubbing duties; verbally confirms surgical site/side before induction of anesthesia; accurately performs sponge, needle, sharp, and instrument counts per department policy; handles and dissects tissues in collaboration with the surgeon; clamps blood vessels, coagulates bleeding points, ligates vessels, and sutures tissues in collaboration with the surgeon; places drains as surgically indicated; assists with cannulation/decannulation if indicated; assists with transferring the patient to and from the operating room, positioning, prepping, and draping; maintains a safe and aseptic environment and takes corrective action to rectify breaks in aseptic technique; inspects sterile items before opening and maintains sterility during delivery to the sterile field; obtains and interprets patient data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed; develops and implements action plans to enhance patient outcomes; maintains appropriate traffic patterns and personnel around the sterile field; applies sterilization/disinfection methods and parameters; observes operating room cleanliness and takes appropriate action; prepares instruments according to physician preference and scheduled procedures; documents relevant data including nursing diagnoses, patient plan of care, intervention and response, and discharge plan; mentors and leads staff in patient care; enhances efficiency and cost effectiveness by identifying opportunities to decrease costs as applicable; works under minimal supervision; performs other job-related duties as assigned.
