Description

Job Summary: Telemetry Medical Surgical Float (TELE MS FLOAT) Garden City, Kansas
The telemetry medical surgical float role supports patient care across multiple units within the facility zone, with assignments that may vary by schedule and operational needs. Candidates must be prepared to float throughout the zone and bring the required license on the first day.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Nights, 11.5 shift hours; minimum of 34.5 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications:
    • Licensure/authorization to work in the role (license required at submission)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) (American Heart Association (AHA))
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (American Heart Association (AHA))
    • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
    • Education: Not specified
    • Experience: Must have 2 years of Medical Surgical (MS)-Tele experience within the last 3 years
    • Location: Garden City, Kansas
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Prior neuro experience
    • Experience with Alaris and Electronic Health Record (EPIC)
  • Responsibilities:
    • Provide care for adult and geriatric patients across a variety of medical conditions, including cardiac, neuro, orthopedic, oncology, renal, urology-post surgicals, general surgery-post appendectomy, gynecology, psych/detox, ENT, general medicine, and stable long-term placement patients
    • Be prepared to float within the assigned zone and across acuity levels as needed (including lower acuity holds within skillset, Progressive Care Unit/Stepdown, and Medical Surgical Telemetry (MS-Tele))
    • Chart using the Electronic Health Record (EPIC)
    • Manage common titratable infusions as required (including heparin)
    • Follow scheduling processes that may include Just-In-Time (JIT) assignment communicated 12 hours before shift start
    • Submit time off requests prior to starting the assignment
  • Additional Information:
    • Week of orientation: Clinicians must be in state for the week of orientation, even if initial modules are completed remotely
    • Weekend/holiday expectations: 69 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule; may be asked to enter holiday rotation
    • Float zone: Float assignments are expected within the zone of up to 60 miles from the zones city center, and the traveler is responsible for housing arrangements that make this feasible
    • Charge nurse support: A designated charge is present on each unit; the night shift charge may take a small patient assignment if necessary
    • Equipment: Respiratory equipment is available as applicable (e.g., ventilators, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP))
    • Nursing support and workflow: Monitor techs are available; Registered Nurses (RNs) read strips
    • Travel cancelation policy (as provided): Hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment, or 3 shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks
    • Nursing assistants: Yes, nursing assistants are available
