Job Summary
Surgical Technologist 1 (ORT) Grapevine, TX. This role supports the inter-operative phase of patient care by assisting the surgical team and helping expedite surgical procedures under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. The position helps maintain a safe operating room environment by ensuring required equipment and instrumentation are prepared, functioning properly, and that aseptic processes are followed. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.
Job Details
- Schedule: 5x8s; Mon-Fri; 0630-1500; 40 hours per week; call required 13 days per month (self scheduled).
- Required Qualifications: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST); Basic Life Support (BLS) (American Heart Association (AHA) only); 2 years minimum experience in plastics and trauma; completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited operating room surgical technologist program (or other nationally accredited surgical technologist program) or successful completion of formal surgical technology training in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service (or one-year operating room technician program preferred).
- Preferred Qualifications: Formal training program in surgical technology through the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States, or United States Public Health Service; one-year operating room technician program.
- Additional Information:
- Prepares the operative site and patient positioning/draping as needed, and sets up the operating room according to surgical procedure schedules.
- Maintains instrument tables to prevent damage, incorrect needs, or incorrect counts; identifies and rectifies damaged/incomplete trays and discrepancies promptly.
- Ensures proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies during procedures; performs sponge, sharps, instrument, and misc. item counts per established policies and procedures.
- Anticipates needs of the surgeon and surgical team, passes sterile supplies/equipment during procedures, and assists with placement of surgical dressings after case completion.
- Receives surgical specimens following specimen protocol and transfers specimens off the sterile field to the circulating nurse with verification of specimen source.
- Disassembles, cleans, decontaminates, sterilizes, and prepares instrumentation/equipment/supplies for distribution, and returns equipment to storage after cases.
- Follows infection control policies and applicable guidelines, including Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Guidelines for Perioperative Practice and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines; may have occasional exposure to chemical or radiation hazards.
