Description

Job Summary: Wound Care (Wound) Nurse New York, New York. The healthcare provider conducts health assessment interviews focused on wound, ostomy, and continence-related care. The role performs focused physical assessments, develops plans of care based on diagnosis and individual client needs, and recommends medications and treatments as appropriate. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Days, 9 shift hours, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Two (2) years of Med/Surg experience; wound and colostomy experience; Associate Degree (ASN/ADN) from an accredited nursing program; New York State RN license; Primary Source Verification of license and registration of Registered Professional Nurse from the New York State Department of Education (NYSED); Basic Life Support (BLS) (AHA); and current certification in one of the following: Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (CWOCN) issued by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB), Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON) issued by the WOCNCB, Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN) issued by the WOCNCB, Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) issued by the American Board of Wound Management (ABWM), or Wound Care Certified Certification (WCC) issued by the National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy (NAWCO).

  • Additional Information: Develops, revises, and evaluates standards of care; assists in the selection of supplies, technology, and equipment; assesses and documents patient response to wound care, ostomy, continence, fistula, and complex wound treatments; evaluates quality and delivery of care provided by clinical staff on the unit; collaborates with the healthcare team and makes referrals to other disciplines as indicated; teaches and counsels individuals and families to assume responsibility for prevention of complications related to ostomies, wounds, or continence problems; develops, provides, and evaluates staff education programs, including new employee orientation, in-services, and continuing education; routinely provides comprehensive assessments of patients at risk for pressure injuries and initiates preventative measures; escalates and communicates challenges, including ethical issues and issues related to conflict resolution; collaborates with the Assistant Director of Nursing for Wound Care to initiate and recommend best practices based on prudent assessment; participates in Unit/Department Quality Improvement and hospital-wide Quality Improvement activities (e.g., incidence and prevalence studies and nursing quality); provides culturally competent patient, family, and staff education consistent with cultural, ethnic, religious, and other belief systems; maintains security and confidentiality of data and information in accordance with patient rights policies; achieves and maintains professional competency through activities consistent with clinical practice and population to serve; identifies available community resources helpful to clients and refers and assists clients in utilizing such resources; and supports asset management related to rented equipment (e.g., specialty beds and negative pressure devices).
