Pre-Admission Services Registered Nurse (PAS RN) Operating Room (OR) Hermiston, Oregon
The Pre-Admission Services (PAS) Registered Nurse specializes in comprehensive pre-operative patient assessment and risk evaluation to support optimal surgical outcomes and patient safety. This role focuses on the pre-operative phase through telephone consultations and in-person visits, identifying anesthesia and surgical risks and helping ensure appropriate medical clearance prior to procedures. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.
Job Details
- Schedule: MondayFriday, 08:0016:30, 40 hours per week (shift time and hours may vary based on operational needs).
- Required Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing; BSN preferred; current, unrestricted Oregon and Washington Registered Nurse licenses; Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS); Crisis Response and Safety Education (CRASE) training; ability to work with a culturally diverse population; minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience; previous surgical experience; experience with Epic (Electronic Health Record) system; knowledge of evidence-based practice and quality improvement methodologies.
- Preferred Qualifications: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification; specialty certification relevant to assigned clinical areas (examples provided in the posting include CPAN, CAPA, CNOR); bilingual and/or English Spanish speaking.
- Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments via telephone and in-person consultations to evaluate patient readiness for surgery and anesthesia.
- Review patient medical history, current medications, allergies, and prior surgical/anesthetic experiences; assess anesthesia and surgical risks using evidence-based screening tools and established clinical protocols.
- Monitor vital signs and perform focused physical assessments as indicated during in-person visits; identify high-risk patients requiring additional medical clearance, optimization, or specialty consultation.
- Coordinate pre-operative testing, consultations, and medical clearances based on patient risk factors and procedure requirements.
- Document comprehensive pre-operative assessments and risk evaluations accurately and completely in Epic; monitor and triage Epic InBasket messages related to pre-admission services.
- Provide telephone triage for pre-operative patient calls, manage referrals, coordinate consultations between specialties and primary care providers, and communicate findings and recommendations to anesthesia providers and surgeons.
- Coordinate pre-operative orders, laboratory results, and diagnostic testing; respond to patient portal messages and telephone calls within established timeframes.
- Provide tailored pre-operative education on surgical procedures, anesthesia options, dietary restrictions, medication management, arrival procedures, and post-operative expectations; address patient and family concerns.
- Support medication adjustments and NPO (nil per os) guidelines specific to procedure needs; support patient understanding of informed consent processes and documentation requirements.
- Collaborate with the Pre-Admission Services Nurse Practitioner, anesthesia team, surgeons, and multidisciplinary perioperative teams; participate in multidisciplinary care planning meetings for high-risk patients.
- Adhere to clinic policies, procedures, and safety protocols for pre-admission services; maintain compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, including OSHA, HIPAA, and DNV standards; apply evidence-based practice guidelines to ensure consistent quality pre-operative care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to pre-admission services and patient outcomes; recognize and report safety concerns, near misses
