Description
Job Summary:
The Interventional Radiology (IR) Registered Nurse (RN) position is located in Elgin, Illinois, within a Level II Trauma Center that specializes in vascular and image-guided procedures. The role involves providing nursing care in a dedicated IR platform, supporting various diagnostic and therapeutic interventions primarily for adult patients. Candidates are required to bring their nursing license on the first day of assignment.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8-hour days, with weekend call rotations. Approximately 10-11 call shifts per month, including two full weekends (Friday 16:30 to Monday 08:00). Response time for calls is 30 minutes.
- Required Qualifications: Valid Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license, Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications. At least 2 years of interventional radiology (IR) experience for RNs and technicians.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with adult inpatient and outpatient populations; familiarity with procedures such as thrombolysis, biopsies, chest tubes, kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty, paracentesis/thoracentesis, CT or radiofrequency ablations, g-tube placements, dialysis catheter placements, nephrostomy tubes, TIPs, Y90s, and chemo/coils embolizations.
- Patient Types and Diagnoses: Adults only, including general/Body IR diagnostics and interventions, with no neuro IR procedures.
- Support within Department: Charge nurse assistance, 24/7 radiologic technologist and hospitalist coverage, radiologists on-site during the day, on-call at night. Transportation is available for IR patient transfers.
- Technology and Equipment: Utilizes EPIC electronic medical records, Alaris infusion pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Merge hemodynamics, GE PACS, Siemens and Philips imaging rooms, Inari, and Penumbra equipment.
- Orientation: 2-3 shifts of facility and unit-specific orientation, scheduled in 8-hour blocks.
- Other Notes: Procedural scrub attire provided, free parking available. The facility remains closed on holidays, with a call team on standby.
- Float: May float to the Catheterization Lab to assist if trained and comfortable.
