Job Summary:
Operating Room Open Heart (OR OH) professionals are sought for a position in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This role involves supporting a high-volume surgical team specializing in complex cardiovascular and thoracic procedures, including robotic cases, heart transplants, and valve replacements. Candidates must demonstrate strong experience in cardiovascular operating rooms and be able to work independently with minimal guidance. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day of assignment.

• Required Qualifications: RN with valid BLS certification, graduation from an accredited school, and 2 years of operating room experience in cardiovascular surgery; ORT with BLS, graduation from an accredited school, and 2 years of experience; Surgical Assist with BLS, graduation from an accredited school, and 2 years of experience; Anesthesia Tech with BLS and 1 year of experience; proficiency operating machines for Blood Gases, Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE), and ultrasounds; experience working in fast-paced environments.
• Certifications: RN: BLS; ORT: BLS; CST (preferred); Surgical Assist: BLS; CSFA (preferred); Anesthesia Tech: BLS.
• Schedule: 0500-0630 for RN; 0530-0630 for Tech/SA and Anesthesia Tech; 40 hours per week.
• Additional Information:
  • First-time traveler: No, not recommended for first-time travelers.
  • Average of 10 cases per day involving complex cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries.
  • Surgical team consists of two RNs per case, with travelers expected to circulate only.
  • Patient ratio of 1:1.
  • Support staff include a department supervisor, team leads, and 24/7 anesthesia availability.
  • Orientation period of 2 weeks.
  • On-call weekend rotation once per month, Saturday and Sunday from 0700 to 0700.
  • Up to 7 days of approved time off; requests for additional days require prior approval.
  • End of shift call up to once per week, with a 30-minute response time.
  • No sleep room available.
  • Adheres to fatigue policy: maximum 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts.
  • Scrub color provided.
  • Must document pain levels before and after medication administration, ensuring appropriate pain scores.
  • Holidays are on-call only, as needed.
  • Team support includes a house supervisor and weekend program staff.
  • Floating is not required for RN and Surgical Assist but is applicable for Anesthesia Tech (floats between CVOR, main OR, and Cath Lab).
  • Equipment includes EPIC (EMR), Alaris, Pyxis, and DaVinci XI systems.
