Job Summary:
Pediatric Psychology (Psych) position located in Bangor, Maine. This role involves providing specialized behavioral health nursing care in a locked inpatient facility with pediatric and adult patients. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day of orientation.
Job Details:
- Location: Bangor, ME
- Shift Hours: 12 hours
- Minimum Hours Per Week: 36 hours
- Start Date: 08/03/2026
- Required Qualifications: One year of Behavioral Health nursing experience, Maine State Nursing License, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Experience with de-escalation, physical restraints (chemical restraints are NOT used), medication passes, group facilitation, and documentation.
- Schedule: First week (Monday-Friday) will be day shifts; second week will be scheduled 12-hour shifts.
- Preferred Qualifications: Pediatric Behavioral Health experience.
- Float: Support on the unit includes floating between adult and pediatric units. If a candidate is not comfortable floating to pediatrics, manager approval is required for orientation.
- Additional Information: The position involves working in a secure, locked facility with patients aged 5-18 years old for pediatrics and 18+ for adults. The facility operates on a modified self-scheduling system with a predetermined weekend rotation. Holidays are worked in rotation.
- Support on the Unit: Nurse Supervisor is available evenings and weekends; Nurse Manager during the day; Charge Nurse may have patient assignments. The program offers scenario-based de-escalation training every other week and MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior) training, which will be reviewed on-site.
- Charting System/Equipment: Cerner Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Pyxis medication dispensing system.
- Other notes: Scrub color is any solid, professional-looking color. Free parking is available. In winter, heavy snow conditions are expected. The facility employs a code leader during escalations; travelers may function as the code leader with debriefing and support available.
