Job Summary:
This psychiatric unit located in Elmira, NY, is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse (RN) to join their acute inpatient psychiatry team. The position involves providing direct patient care within a 25-bed inpatient unit specializing in acute psychosis presentations, including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, suicidal ideations, homicidal behaviors, and dual diagnoses. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day of employment.

Job Details:

• Location: Elmira, NY

• Schedule: 12-hour shifts with a minimum of 36 hours per week; two 8-hour shifts (1500-2330) and two 12-hour shifts (1100-2330) per week. Holidays and every other weekend are expected.
• Required Qualifications: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and must be able to work in the specified schedule.
• Additional Information: Staff are trained to handle patient rounds, vital signs, medication administration, patient care, facilitating groups, and patient assessments. The unit does not utilize seclusion; restraints are a last resort following de-escalation techniques. Nursing staff may be trained to assume multiple roles including charge nurse, admission nurse, and medication nurse, with the possibility of floating to similar units within the hospital if needed.
• Patient Population: Patients with acute psychosis, mood disorders, and dual diagnoses; no emergency department within the facility, with medical emergencies managed through external facilities via emergency services.
