Job Summary:
Critical Care Nurse specializing in Intensive Care Unit Cardiovascular (ICU OH) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This position involves providing advanced patient care within a Level II Trauma Center, focusing on cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery patients. The role requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
Job Details:
- Location: Milwaukee, WI
- Schedule: Nights shift, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week
- Start Date: 08/10/2026
- Required Qualifications: - Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification - Minimum of 3 years of ICU experience with at least 1 year in Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) - No experience minimum required, but preferred; experience in ICU and CVICU environments preferred
- Preferred Qualifications: - CCRN certification - EPIC electronic medical records experience - Specific experience with cardiovascular surgical procedures such as ECMO, CVVH, IABP, VAD
- Patient Types and Common Diagnoses: - Postoperative cardiac cases including CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve surgeries, heart transplants, pacemakers - Thoracic surgeries such as esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, lobectomy - Vascular surgeries like AAA, TVAR, carotid endarterectomy - Patient ratios: RN 1:1; 1:2 in regular ICU status; 1:3 mixed; Tech 1:8-10
- Support and Equipment: - 24/7 availability of charge nurses, intensivists, hospitalists, respiratory therapists, and support staff - EMR system: EPIC - Monitors: GE - Bedside telemetry monitoring; no tele-tech required - Equipment includes invasive monitoring devices, ventilators, chest tubes, infusion pumps
- Orientation: 1 day of facility and unit orientation plus 2-4 hours of Nursing Education Orientation (NEO) with a supervisor/nurse educator, followed by placement on the unit with a preceptor
- Scheduling and Other Notes: - Every other weekend rotation - No on-call requirement - 1-2 holidays per contract - Approval of RTO up to 7 days - Shift times: 0700-1900 or 1900-0700 - 6-week schedule prepared 1-2 weeks prior - Adheres to fatigue policy limiting work to 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts - Scrub color: any solid professional color, no graphics or logos - Parking: free with shuttle service for day shift and attached parking structure for night shift
