Description
Job Summary:
Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical Surgical (MS) for a healthcare facility located in Carroll, Iowa. This position involves providing comprehensive nursing care on a MedSurg/Pediatrics unit with a shared patient population, including pediatric cases. The RN will work night shifts in a 12-hour schedule, supporting diverse clinical needs with a focus on quality patient care and team collaboration.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Night shifts, 12 hours shifts, start time at 7:00 PM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week. The schedule is on a 6-week cyclic pattern, with flexibility to accommodate scheduling needs.
- Required Qualifications: Valid license to practice as an RN, BLS (AHA) certification, minimum 3 years of MedSurg/Pediatrics experience, and at least 1 year of travel nursing experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: PALS certification is preferred but not mandatory; experience with pediatric patients, ability to interpret telemetry monitoring, and familiarity with titrating Heparin drips.
- Patient Care: Managing common diagnoses such as CHF, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, and various surgical recoveries, including pediatric cases involving RSV where applicable.
- Unit Environment: Shared unit with 19 beds, potentially overflowing into the CCU side, with a nurse-to-patient ratio goal of 1:4, but may extend to 1:6 or 1:8 depending on census and staffing.
- Support Staff: Includes nurse aides with ratios ranging from 1:6 during day shifts to 1:8 at night, and monitor techs may be trained to interpret telemetry.
- Operational Notes: The charge nurse oversees operations, with additional floating to CCU or OB as needed. Orientation includes a 12-hour shift specific to unit protocols.
- Additional Requirements: Must be able to float to other units such as CCU or OB, with cross-training options available. Security procedures include handling med drawer keys, which must be returned at shift end.
