Job Summary:
registered nurse (RN), Step Down Unit, Omaha, NE This position involves providing compassionate and skilled care to adult patients in a Step Down Unit that primarily manages post-acute and critically ill patients. The role emphasizes teamwork, patient-centered care, and adherence to clinical standards within an acute care setting.
Job Details:
- Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association), ACLS (American Heart Association) required; Oncology Nursing Society (ONS/ONCC) certification preferred but not required.
- Education and Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience required. First-time travelers are accepted.
- Shift: 12-hour shifts, days scheduled from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM, with every other weekend. Orientation includes two days of unit-specific training.
- Schedule: Days, 36 hours per week.
- Minimum Qualifications: Valid nursing license, ability to manage titratable drips such as insulin, Cardizem, chemotherapy, Heparin, Protonix, and others; proficiency with high-flow respiratory equipment is typical.
- Equipment: High-flow respiratory devices, electronic infusion pumps (EMR: Epic), Alaris infusion pumps, and available support lifts.
- Support Staff: Nursing Assistants, Charge Nurse, PT/OT, RN Case Manager, Social Worker, Educator, Dietitian.
- Patient Population: Adult patients in oncology and trauma, with a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4 to 1:5.
- Unit Notes: RN's must pass a skills exam during orientation with a 90% passing threshold; artificial nails are prohibited. Driver's license required at submission for radius verification; candidates cannot be full-time, part-time, or PRN with associated facilities within 50 miles.
- Additional Information: Float to other Medical/Surgical and Step Down units may be necessary; float assignments remain at same level of care.
