Job Summary
A registered nurse specializing in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is sought for an assignment in Alexandria, Virginia. This role involves providing care to surgical patients in a fast-paced environment, requiring active Virginia RN licensure and a minimum of two years of PACU experience. Candidates must bring their license on the first day of work.
Job Details
- Shift Hours: 8 hours per day
- Minimum Hours Per Week: 40 hours
- Schedule: Full-time, 36 hours/week, Monday through Friday, with shifts typically lasting 9 or 12 hours; start times vary based on operational needs
- Start Date: 07/06/2026
- Required Qualifications: Active RN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or active multistate compact (NLC) license; Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications required; minimum 2 years PACU RN experience; Epic electronic medical record system preferred; strong perianesthesia background preferred
- Float Requirement: First to float between Preoperative, ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy), Endoscopy, and PACU (no intraoperative endoscopy coverage)
- On-Call (2nd Call): Rotation per 6-week period including 3 weekday shifts (2100-0530) and 3 weekend/holiday shifts (either 0800-2000 or 2000-0800)
- Unit Details: PACU with 13 bays (10 Phase 1, 3 Phase 2), caring for inpatient and outpatient surgical patients, including pediatric patients age 10+
- Common Cases: Total joint arthroplasty, spine, orthopedic sports medicine, general surgery, vascular, plastics, urology, ENT, ECT, GI endoscopy
- Population: Surgical patients across multiple specialties, with pediatric patients age 10+; trauma or critical care experience not required
- Additional Information: Assignment length of 10 weeks; candidates must be comfortable with variable start times and on-call expectations; ECG exam on Day 2 of orientation, pass/fail with one attempt; attendance at a pre-start study session recommended; call rotation includes observed holidays
