Description

Job Summary:
The organization is seeking a qualified Stepdown Cardiac Neuro Registered Nurse (RN) for a unit located in Evansville, Indiana. This 13-week contract position requires candidates to possess a current active compact license and relevant certifications. The role involves working 12-hour days, with a minimum commitment of 36 hours per week. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details:

  • Location: Evansville, Indiana
  • Position: Stepdown Cardiac Neuro RN
  • Shift: 12-hour days, 6:30 AM 7:00 PM
  • Schedule: Minimum of 36 hours per week; every other holiday required
  • Certification and Experience:
    • Current active compact license
    • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS), AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications
    • Minimum of 2 solid years of Stepdown experience plus 1 travel contract required, or 5 years of solid Stepdown experience if no travel experience
    • Recent EPIC charting experience required (candidate will need to complete a checkoff class)
  • Clinical Skills and Responsibilities:
    • Telemetry and 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation
    • Post-heart catheterization care, including femoral access and managing tranradial (TR) bands
    • Initiation and titration of infusions such as Cardizem, Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Insulin, and Heparin
    • Neuro assessments including NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
    • Sepsis management, chest tube care, and PIV insertion
    • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills required
  • Patient Population: Post-procedure cardiac patients (caths/stents/interventions), STEMI/NSTEMI patients, carotid endarterectomy, sepsis, neurological conditions (CVA, seizures, TBI), diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
  • Unit Details:
    • 19 beds, blended unit with 8 designated Stepdown beds and 11 Medical/Surgical beds
    • Nurse-to-patient ratios: Days 1:5-6, with charge nurses overseeing patients
    • No participating with competing health systems or agency logos (scrub color: navy blue)
    • May require precepting of students and new hires
    • Covid-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)
  • Additional Operational Notes:
    • GSA hours are not guaranteed during orientation week; set hours guaranteed once on assignment, excluding holidays when the unit is closed
