Job Summary
The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN) position in Charlotte, North Carolina, requires a qualified healthcare professional to provide specialized patient care within a 10-bed MedSurg and 10-bed Progressive Care setting. Candidates are expected to bring their nursing license on the first day. The role involves a nights shift, with a schedule cycle every six weeks, and includes weekend rotations every other week.
Job Details
- Schedule: Nights, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week, every other weekend, with no call requirement.
- Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license; BLS; ACLS; NIHSS (Resource Team requirement); 18 months of PCU experience (Resource Team requirement); experience with stroke, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, Foley insertion/management, etc.), PCA pumps, and medication drip management including cardiac drips, Heparin, Insulin, blood products, and IV fluids.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with interventional patients with titratable drips, and telemetric monitoring/tech is not required.
- Support within the Department: CNA, Receptionist/Human Resources Coordinator, Charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team (11 a.m. 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. 7 a.m.), resource nurse, respiratory therapist (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), intensivist (in-house until 11 p.m. Monday-Friday and until 7 p.m. Saturday/Sunday).
- Technology/Equipment: Epic electronic medical record system, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Phillips monitors.
- Floating: Floating to all units within scope and geographic region as needed, including facilities within Region 1 such as Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (main hospital, Mercy, and LCH). Floating mid-shift is paid for travel time between facilities.
- Orientation: Two days departmental orientation and facility orientation.
- Other Notes: Scrub color is navy; free parking; the unit culture emphasizes teamwork; travel involves working approximately 75% of holidays; up to 6 days off RTO (excluding holidays) can be approved, with additional time added if contract hours are not met.
