Description

Job Summary:
A Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nurse is needed in Tacoma, Washington. This position involves providing specialized care in a Level III-IV NICU setting at a high-level childrens hospital with approximately 70 beds, including private rooms and an attached Pediatric Hospital. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day. The role requires adaptability to occasional floating to the emergency room and participation in a flexible weekend rotation.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Night shifts, either from 07:00 PM to 07:30 AM or from 07:00 PM to 07:30 AM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid Washington state nursing license; Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP); at least 2 years of experience in a Level III or IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; minimum education required: appropriate nursing degree; location requirements: must be licensed in Washington; years of experience: 2.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with respiratory support for vents, trachs (highly preferred but not required), g-tubes, NG/OG tubes, NCPAP, UAC/UVC management, PICC lines, med administration, care planning, and discharge to home. Good attitude and friendliness are highly desirable.
  • Additional Information: Consideration for first-time travelers; travel experience is strongly preferred. The patient population includes preterm infants down to 22 weeks gestation, with diagnoses such as respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), high-risk deliveries, NAS, and congenital issues like hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). May require occasional floating to emergency room to act as a sitter, though infrequent.
  • Notes: Block scheduling is possible but not guaranteed. The NICU operates within a part of the pediatric hospital attached to an adult hospital specializing in high-risk labor and delivery.
