Description
Job Summary:
The organization is seeking a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Open Heart (OH) nurse to work in a Pediatrics Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) located in Dallas, Texas. This position involves caring for pediatric patients with congenital heart disease, including post-operative management and critical care procedures. The candidate will provide compassionate, empathetic care within a dynamic and highly specialized ICU environment, supporting a team dedicated to patient recovery and safety.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Day shift with rotating weekends (Saturday and Sunday days; Friday and Saturday nights). Shift hours are 12 hours per day, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications:
- 1 year of Pediatric CICU/CVICU experience as a staff nurse or 2 years minimum PICU experience.
- Experience with caring for patients with congenital heart disease and post-operative management.
- Management of arterial lines, central lines, transthoracic lines.
- Certifications: PALS, BLS, ACLS.
- Location requirements: Dallas, Texas.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 or more years of Pediatric CICU/CVICU experience as a staff nurse.
- At least 1 year of experience caring for neonatal cardiac patients (pre-operative and post-operative management).
- Experience in step-down units or cardiology floors.
- Additional Information:
- Typical procedures performed include central line and arterial line placement, conscious sedation, intubation/extubation, post-op recovery of general and cardiac procedures, sternal closures, codes, ECMO cannulation and decannulation, CRRT, and manual peritoneal dialysis (PD).
- Equipment used includes IV pumps (Medfusion and Baxter), beds (Hillrom), GE radiant warmers, Somanetics NIRS machines, Servo U ventilators.
- The unit operates with a team caring for ICU and step-down level patients, with staffing based on census and acuity needs.
