Job Summary:
Labor and Delivery (L&D) nurse position available in a hospital setting located in Ellsworth, Maine. The role involves providing comprehensive care across all phases of labor and postpartum, caring for well babies, and supporting the units clinical operations. The assignment starts on 08/03/2026, with a schedule of days shift.
Job Details:
- Location: 50 Union St., Ellsworth, ME 04605
- Schedule: Days shift, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and intermediate or advanced Fetal Monitoring. Minimum of 2 years of labor and delivery experience, with a preference for candidates with at least 3 years of labor and delivery experience, including postpartum care and well baby management.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with all phases of labor, postpartum, well-baby care, shoulder dystocia, epidural management, intrathecal spinal analgesia, and neonatal care including VS, thermoregulation, hypoglycemia, bilirubin babies, and Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) babies.
- Patient Care: Low to high risk patient care, including laboring, active labor, couplets, and medical-surgical overflow. Unit operates on a rooming-in model with no dedicated nursery RN; nurses care for both mother and baby.
- Patient Ratios: Based on American Workforce for Obstetric, Neonatal, and Womens Health Nurses (AWHONN) guidelines: 1:2 for laboring, 1:1 during active labor, 1:3-4 for couplets, and 1:2-3 for med-surg cases.
- Additional Responsibilities: Neonatal care including thermoregulation, hypoglycemia, bilirubin management, NAS, and support during cesarean sections for neonatal care only.
- Staffing & Resources: Staffing includes at least two nurses overnight, with additional support from a charge nurse, OB team, HUC, and other staff as needed. No scrub dress code is mandated; professional attire required.
- Charting System: Cerner electronic medical record system.
- Floating: May be asked to float to Medical/Surgical or Emergency Department for task-only duties.
- Orientation & Scheduling: General hospital and unit orientation provided; shift includes every other weekend work. No on-call requirement; no holiday rotation.
- Additional Notes: Scrub color is flexible; parking is free. The facility operates a hospitalist team 24/7 with OB available if needed.
