Job Summary:
A registered nurse with expertise in medical surgical nursing is needed in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. This role involves providing observation and inpatient care on the Medical Surgical Floor, supporting the continuum of patient care through assessment, treatment, education, and collaboration with healthcare providers. The position emphasizes clinical competency, effective communication, and adherence to safety standards.

• Position: RN: Medical Surgical Floor
• Department: Medical Surgical
• Location: Pagosa Springs, Colorado
• Shift: Day Shift, 0630 to 1830
• Schedule: 3 days per week, 12-hour shifts
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Certification and Education Requirements: Graduate of an accredited RN program, current Colorado RN license or ability to obtain license, American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification or completion within 3 months, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or completion within 3 months, Cerner Electronic Health Record (EHR) experience, basic computer skills
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of Med Surg or Emergency Room experience, previous traveler experience required
• Responsibilities:
  • Provide patient care within the RN scope in accordance with physician/provider orders
  • Perform comprehensive assessments, care planning, and interventions
  • Monitor patients for changes in condition and report abnormal findings
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, oxygen therapy, blood products, and other treatments accurately and timely
  • Operate infusion pumps and document in the electronic health record
  • Complete documentation in Cerner EHR, using Care Compass for assessments, care tasks, and patient education
  • Conduct age-specific nursing assessments and interventions
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation, and respond when needed
  • Educate patients and families about disease processes, treatment plans, medications, wound care, discharge, and follow-up
  • Transfer care using SBAR format when appropriate
  • Follow infection prevention practices and maintain patient confidentiality
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and mentor other staff
• Work Environment: Hospital setting with potential exposure to biological hazards, chemicals, and environmental stresses; physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, standing, and patient movement is required.
