Job Summary
Emergency Room (ER) Nurse - Tacoma, WA. The healthcare provider is seeking experienced ER nurses to join a high-acuity, Level II Trauma Center with a designated Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The role involves managing a diverse patient population with a wide range of acuity levels, including trauma, sepsis, COVID-19, stroke, and mental health cases. The shift is scheduled for nights, offering an opportunity to provide critical care in a fast-paced environment.
Job Details
- Location: Tacoma, WA
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week, with flexibility to switch during the contract; weekend rotation every other week; up to 5 days off are permissible.
- Required Qualifications: Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB); 1 year of strong Emergency Department experience; ability to interpret cardiac rhythms, perform IV skills, and manage drips, medications, and procedural sedation; experience with blood administration and cardiac medications; certification in traveler competency exam (to be completed prior to assignment).
- Support on the Unit: ER technical support for glucose checks and splinting, with additional resources such as charge nurses, resource/float nurses (pending staffing), security, and 24/7 pharmacy services.
- Charting System/Equipment: Epic electronic medical record system, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing system (central and bedside), telemetry monitoring.
- Orientation: First day includes badge and Epic training, meeting with educator, followed by a 12-hour shift with preceptor.
- Additional Information: The facility is a patient-centric, high-acuity setting managing a wide spectrum of illnesses and trauma cases. Safety and adherence to clinical protocols are emphasized throughout the assignment.
