Job Summary
An Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) nurse is needed for a healthcare facility located in Boston, MA. This position involves providing care for post-operative cardiac surgery patients, thoracic surgery, and cardiology patients on a rotating shift schedule. The role requires assessing and managing patients transferred from intensive care, with a focus on preparing them for discharge or rehabilitation. The unit mainly operates on a 12-hour rotating shift, including day and night shifts, with coverage every other weekend and holidays.

Job Details

  • Location: Boston, MA
  • Shift Schedule: Rotating 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Start Date: 08/24/2026
  • Required Qualifications: Certifications (BLS, ACLS-AHA), MA license, 2 years of experience in a similar setting, epic experience, graduated from an accredited nursing program with a relevant degree, separated from the organization for at least 6 months, no locals
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience caring for post-operative cardiac surgery, thoracic, and cardiology patients; familiarity with intermediate care protocols
  • Float: Float rotation may be required
  • Additional Information:
    • BILH coversheet required at time of submission
    • Nurse to patient ratio: 3:1/4:1 during day shifts, 4:1/5:1 during night shifts
    • Staffing includes approximately 4 PCTs from 7a-11p and about 2 PCTs from 11p-7a, as well as 2 unit clerks during day hours
    • Dedicated lead resource available 24/7
    • The unit provides comprehensive post-operative care for patients after cardiac surgeries, including coronary artery bypass grafts, valve procedures, and complex aortic surgeries. Patients are transferred from intensive care on post-operative day one and are prepared for discharge by postoperative day four.
