Description
Job Summary:
Step Down Unit Nurse Practitioner in San Francisco, California. This position involves providing specialized patient care in a dedicated step down unit, monitoring patients requiring intermediate levels of care. The candidate will be responsible for managing complex cases, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes in a dynamic hospital environment.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Rotating shift times with a minimum of 36 hours per week, with shift hours of 12 hours. The start date is 08/18/2026.
- Required Qualifications: CA Registered Nurse (RN) license, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Basic Life Support (BLs), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Minimum of 2 years of experience in Pediatric Cardiac Transitional Care or Step Down, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience, and ability to float to other UCSF units and facilities as needed.
- Preferred Qualifications: Telemetry experience, experience with arterial lines and central lines, pediatric critical care, transitional care, and cardiac experience.
- Certifications: BLS, PALS.
- Skills: Management of blood and blood products, arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), dysrhythmia interpretation, infection control/PPE, pediatric stroke risk assessment, neonatal and pediatric procedural care, starting and maintaining IVs, telemetry monitoring on the unit, and pediatric emergency response protocols.
- Additional Unit Details: Staff-to-patient ratios are 3:1 during days, nights, and weekends. The unit cares for a diverse patient age range from neonates to adults, with daily census of 9 patients. Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, respiratory services, radiology, social services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams.
- Orientation & Modules: Orientation hours are 48 hours, with completed modules ranging from 1 to 24 hours, relevant to unit specialty.
- Travel & Location Requirements: Ability to float within a 75+ mile radius, with travel compliance and RTO policies in place. Start date can be sooner if approved, and no requests for early start without prior authorization.
- References & Employment: Two recent employer references are required. Employment history with university-affiliated facilities must be included for rehire eligibility.
